Department of Urban Studies and Planning, MIT, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s [MIT] Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) seeks two outstanding faculty candidates whose research and practice will contribute to our department in: Urban Design (including nature-based solutions, digital urbanism, public engagement, and neighborhood design), E nvironmental Planning (including climate adaptation, negotiation and decision-making; and community engagement) or Real Estate Infrastructure Finance (including sustainable finance mechanisms, public-private partnerships, affordable housing, and market dynamics). In all areas, we seek candidates whose work demonstrates commitment to rigorous planning scholarship grounded in real-world contexts; translating research into practical tools and insights for planning decisions; using advanced methods, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computational analysis for planning; design innovation, engaging with practitioners, municipalities, nonprofits, developers, and communities; advancing justice in design and policy; and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across sectors. Initial appointments are expected to be made at pre-tenure ranks, although in exceptional cases we will consider more senior tenured candidates.  Successful applicants will be expected to engage with students from the department’s undergraduate, professional masters (MCP), and doctoral programs.   Basic qualifications include a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, economics, real estate, or a related field; a track record of excellence in scholarship, teaching or practice; and a strong interest in working across traditional disciplinary boundaries to solve urban problems.   A complete application package includes a (a) cover letter, (b) curriculum vitae, (c) statement outlining current and future research and teaching interests; (d) the names, affiliations, and email addresses of at least three referees.
