Summary: This position supports the hospitality ministry of Westminster, which is committed to welcoming all while maintaining a safe and secure environment for all who enter and work at Westminster. A number of our guests are people who are experiencing homelessness or are precariously housed or may present with distress.
Hours: Sundays (Sept-May, 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., June-August, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) plus additional event or building support hours as needed. Hours are not guaranteed, will fluctuate depending on needs, and will be approximately 5-15 hours/week.
Accountability: This position will be accountable to and supervised by the Building Hospitality and Safety Manager. This position will be a member of the Sunday Hospitality Team, which is led by the Senior Associate Pastor.
Hospitality, Safety, and Security
- Welcome and interact with all guests, members, staff, and community partners located in our building
- Monitor and assist with people entering the building
- Maintain a positive presence that conveys the church is a safe and welcoming place
- Coordinate with other team members - particularly Building Hospitality and Safety Manager, Facilities, Reception, and clergy – to provide a safe and secure environment
- Communicate safety or security concerns to Building Hospitality and Safety Manager and the Director of Facilities and or reach out to appropriate intervention resources
- Participate in regular security checks of the building and grounds, including doors
- Assist in keeping outdoor areas clean and free from waste
- During down times, assist Facilities staff with event set up and take down
Education/Experience
Three to five years’ related experience and/or training in social work, hospitality, church or nonprofit event support and coordination, and de-escalation techniques.
